The IWATSU CS-8020 is designed for engineers, semiconductor laboratories, power electronics developers and research facilities requiring accurate medium-voltage current-voltage characterization without an integrated high-voltage source.
Its built-in MV unit provides maximum peak output combinations of 200 V / 1 A and 100 V / 2 A. The measurement voltage range extends from 200 mV to 200 V, while the measured current range covers 5 nA to 2 A with a minimum measured-current resolution of 250 fA. This wide dynamic range allows the same instrument to evaluate both device conduction characteristics and very small currents.
The MV source supports DC, pulse, sine, half-wave and full-wave operation. In the manufacturer's catalogue, DC operation is specified up to 200 mA, while pulse operation supports up to 2 A, depending on the selected voltage/current range and measurement conditions. Constant-voltage and constant-current drive measurements are also supported.
A built-in GATE unit provides up to 40 V / 1 A, with measurement ranges of 1 V to 50 V and 5 nA to 1 A. It supports DC, pulse and 50 Hz sine operation and provides programmable gate sequencing. Gate pre-signal voltage can be adjusted from -40 V to +40 V, with configurable hold times from 0 to 5 seconds.
The CS-8020 provides single, repeat and stop measurement modes, along with one-point, single-sweep and double-sweep operation. Up to 1,000 sweep steps can be configured. The double-sweep capability is particularly useful when investigating hysteresis behaviour in wide-bandgap semiconductor devices such as SiC and GaN components.
A 12.1-inch TFT LCD touch panel with 1280 × 800 resolution provides X-Y characteristic curves, Y-T waveform displays, measurement data and cursor information. The Y-T display allows engineers to observe the applied waveform, pulse timing, measurement point and abnormal behaviour such as oscillation during a measurement.
The CS-8020 also provides USB storage and Gigabit LAN connectivity. Measurement data, setup files and screen captures can be stored internally or on USB memory, while LAN connectivity supports remote control and integration into automated semiconductor characterization environments.
Unlike the CS-8200 and CS-8500, the CS-8020 does not include a dedicated HV unit. However, the modular CS-8000 architecture allows compatible external high-current units and test accessories to be selected according to the required test configuration.
